This blog describes different aspects of runtime environments for object-oriented languages. The focus is on Pharo, a Smalltalk dialect. From time to time, I may also discuss other Smalltalk dialects, such as Squeak, Cuis or Newspeak.
The main blog topics are:
- Opal, the Pharo byte code compiler.
- The Cog virtual machine internals, including the JIT and the memory manager.
- Sista, the architecture built on top of the Cog VM to improve performance.
- Other topics related to runtime environments or Pharo I get interested in.
